Greece Overview
Most people go to Greece to experience its beautiful islands, its ancient ruins, or its lovely Greek lifestyle. My itinerary was the following

The hardest part of planning the trip was decided which islands to go to. There are hundreds of islands and dozens that are popular tourist destinations. I think if you throw a dart at a wall and go to whichever one you hit, you'll probably have a good time, but you'll want to keep the following in mind.
In the first week of september everything was warm/perfect weather. Athens in particular was hot as hell. Especially if you go to the southern islands like crete/rhodes, you could totally do sunbathing in october. The cyclades would be good for siteseeing in october as the crowds have left, you might not be swimming but better prices and easier access. Avoid July/August anywhere in greece as its peak tourist season, the europeans have the same school holidays as the americans.
The Cyclades: This is the most famous island group in the Aegean Sea, some of the popular islands are below.
Santorini: This is the most famous and popular island. Its going to be filled with people taking photos for their instagram and old people. That being said, its the most famous for a reason: it has beautiful architecture and a freaking caldera! My roommate loved it.
Mykonos: This is known as a party island during the summer season. My friend went here and Santorini when she was 19, so keep that in mind for the expected crowd.
Naxos: Largest Island of the Cyclades, has the most infrastructure. Seems really pretty too, almost went here over crete.
Milos: seems like a cool hipster island with lots of isolated beaches and cool rock formations. Doesn't have a lot of flights or ferrys going there, so its less popular.
Ios: Kinda like Milos.
Paros: seems to be where the honeymooners go when they don't want to go to the overly popular santorini. Seems to be getting too popular.
Crete: this is where I went, the largest island, tons of infrastructure and has everything like hiking, museums, largest cities and secluded beaches. I picked this one so I can land and then figure out how to spend 5 days. If I got bored I knew there would be something else to do. Extremely happy with my choice. I met cool people at the hostels but the night life was a bit difficult for a solo traveler. For example. the bars in chani/retheymno were other old tourists or tables outside with groups of friends, and this was on friday/saturday.
Rhodes: I really want to go here, everyone said it was awesome.
kefalonia: heard amazing things.
